Job summary
We are seeking to appointment a Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology to join the Royal London Hospital on a 12-month fixed term contract. This job presents an attractive and varied combination of medical retina with some general ophthalmology practice at a large teaching hospital. This is a full-time position (10 PAs).
The successful candidate will have experience in general ophthalmology and medical retina. The post holder will be working in a multi-disciplinary team including nurses, optometrists, orthoptists, consultants and resident doctors to support the delivery of the service.
Main duties of the job
o To support the running of the Medical Retina service across Barts Health taking a lead role at The Royal London Hospital (RLH).
o The consultant is also expected to oversee/support the junior doctors and optometrist's clinic profiles.
o To be involved in the strategic planning and development of the Medical Retina service at RLH.
o To have responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of their departments. You will participate in the three tier RLH on-call rota (1 in 7) as the third tier, non-resident consultant support.
o To assume responsibility both singularly and corporately for the management of the junior medical staff.
o To be responsible for the approving and monitoring of junior staff rotas and junior staff locum arrangements, where appropriate.
o To contribute to the teaching and assessment of undergraduates and of junior doctors.
o To participate in training and teaching sessions.
o To participate in clinical audit and participate in Trust audit meetings.
o To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their clinics or department.
