Barts Health has an opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Pharmacy Technician to undertake and develop our newly established program of verification of prescriptions for selected Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) by Pharmacy Technicians.Based at St Bartholomew's Hospital and embedded within our large Oncology Pharmacy team, you will be well supported to develop this exciting, innovative role.
The Pharmacy Oncology Team is well established within Barts Cancer Centre and we provide inpatient, outpatient and daycase SACT services. Our aseptic Chemotherapy Services Unit provides approximately 50,000 patient doses per year with a large clinical trial portfolio and implemented electronic prescribing system. In line with the Trust's goals, we strive to deliver the best possible patient experience, be a provider of excellent patient safety and cultivate Barts Health as an outstanding place to work.
The post holder will be a team player and keen to continue to improve quality standards within the department. This position offers the opportunity to learn new skills, develop existing ones as well as being a valued part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
To promote the responsible, safe and cost-effective provision of medication from the Chemotherapy Services Unit (CSU) with specific responsibility for checking readymade and prepared doses of anticancer therapy doses from our dedicated satellite dispensary. The post holder will also be integral to developing and implementing a framework for Pharmacy Technician SACT prescription verification. The post holder will also support our ward-based team of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and ATOs providing a patient facing, pharmacy service to cancer patients including a dedicated satellite dispensary for our 4 cancer inpatient wards.
