Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join our existing site-specialist multidisciplinary teams in the field of Breast Cancers.

This is a fixed-term post based at St Bartholomew's Hospital in the Barts Cancer Centre for a period of 12 months. The successful candidate will join a well-established clinical oncology team and play a key role in developing cancer services across the Trust.

The posts offer an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and welcoming consultant team, and to develop new models of care/services that support the people in north-east London and beyond.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. This post is advertised as a part-time 4 PA position; an alternative timetable would need to be requested prior to appointment for consideration by the Clinical Director.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and high-quality evidence-based Clinical Oncology service, with continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.

Leadership, development, and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with Trust / Divisional business plans. Full participation in the management of the Barts Cancer Centre (BCC).

Liaison and communication with the Clinical Academic Group Director and General Manager and with the Deputy Director of Operations of BCC.

To develop his/her own interests and specialities within oncology, including active participation in research programmes.

To have corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.

The post holder will work with Dr Virginia Wolstenholme and Dr John Conibear to help provide the breast service for patients in North East London.

The service also covers East London with referrals from Whipps Cross, Homerton and Newham Hospitals with non-surgical care of patients shared with medical oncology colleagues.

It is expected that the post holder will actively participate in recruitment to and development of research studies related to their clinical interests

To provide, with colleagues, clinical care and supervision of patients attending the Paget Oncology Chemotherapy Day Unit.

To provide, with colleagues, care for patients attending the radiotherapy department and to advise and treat patients with oncological emergencies from Barts Health NHS Trust and also Homerton NHS Foundation Trust.

  • MRCP(UK) , CCST in Clinical Oncology (or within 6 months of date of interview)

  • Higher degree, e.g. MD/PhD

  • Specialist knowledge in the management of breast malignancies
