Job summary

The Royal London Hospital is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Consultant Physician to join our team in the Acute Medicine and Nephrology departments. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to both acute medical care and specialized nephrology services, providing comprehensive care to a diverse patient population.

Responsibilities: Acute Medicine:

- Lead the acute medical take, providing expert care and decision-making for patients presenting with a variety of acute medical conditions.

- Oversee the management of patients in a short stay inpatient general medical ward, ensuring high standards of clinical care and patient safety.

- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated and efficient care, participating in ward rounds, case discussions, and discharge planning.

Nephrology:

- Supervise a cohort of haemodialysis patients, ensuring optimal dialysis management and addressing any complications that arise.

- Conduct a general nephrology outpatient clinic, providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans for patients with a range of kidney-related conditions.

- Lead virtual clinics for the management of patients with chronic kidney disease, utilizing telemedicine to enhance patient access and monitoring.

- Engage in patient education and counselling, promoting awareness and understanding of kidney health and disease management

Main duties of the job

Education and Training: Contribute to the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals. Provide mentorship and guidance to support their professional development.

Research and Innovation: Engage in clinical research and quality improvement projects to advance the field of acute medicine and nephrology. Encourage and participate in innovative practices and treatments.

Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including nursing staff, allied health professionals, and administrative personnel, to ensure holistic patient care.

On-call Duties: Participate in the on-call rota, providing expert support and decision-making during emergency situations.

Key Requirements:

- CCT in Acute/General Medicine and Nephrology or equivalent.

- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the Specialist Register.

- Demonstrated expertise in managing acute medical conditions and nephrology disorders.

- Excellent communication, leadership, and team-working skills.

- Commitment to continuous professional development and participation in clinical audits and research activities.
