Research Fellow in Interventional Cardiology

Barts Health NHS Trust

The closing date is 29 September 2024

Job summary

The aim of this post is to support ongoing research in the interventional cardiology department focusing on regenerative medicine and interventional research, with a view to submitting an MD (Res)/PhD.

Barts Heart Centre is home to the merged cardiac units which were previously based at The London Chest Hospital, St. Bartholomew's Hospital and The Heart Hospital. It is the heart attack centre for the region and also provides invasive and interventional cardiology services, structural cardiology, specialist cardiac imaging, electrophysiology services including device implants and ablation therapy for arrhythmia, grown up congenital heart disease, heart muscle disease and heart failure services. These posts therefore provide exposure to a wide variety of cardiology and medical conditions.

Main duties of the job

This role would suit a well organised person who has a desire to undertake a period of research training as part of their clinical training, ideally in the fields of cardiology or cardiac critical care. Some prior experience in research through an intercalated BSc or similar would be beneficial, as would experience / expertise in data management. Crucially the role requires an applicant who can communicate with a wide range of people and who can work independently.

The main responsibilities in addition to the MD (Res)/PhD is to support the cardiac intervention research activities.
