Job summary
The post-holder will lead on the orthoptic-led neuro-ophthalmology service in conjunction with the Consultant Neuro-ophthalmologist and Consultant Neurologist. This includes the Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) clinic. They will also lead on the Adults with learning disabilities (ALD) clinic.
The post holder will co-ordinate the orthoptic assessment and virtual review of orthoptic-led patients under the care of the neuro-ophthalmology service alongside the wider multidisciplinary team (such as neurology, endocrinology, AHP groups and so on).
The post-holder will be expected to produce regular audits, quality improvement projects and service evaluation for orthoptic-led neuro-ophthalmology clinics (including IIH) and the ALD service.
As part of general Orthoptic duties the post-holder will work as an autonomous practitioner to assess, diagnose and manage patients referred to the Orthoptic, Paediatric and Neuro-ophthalmology services.
We will support you in your role to develop your skills and knowledge. There is scope in the future for an ACP role within the team. The extensive range of clinics you can be involved in will also allow you to develop and progress in the areas you enjoy.

Main duties of the job
o To lead on the orthoptic-led neuro-ophthalmology service in conjunction with the Consultant Neuro-ophthalmologist and Consultant Neurologist. This includes the Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) clinic.
o Lead on the Adults with learning disabilities (ALD) clinic.
o Co-ordinate the orthoptic assessment and virtual review of orthoptic-led patients under the care of the neuro-ophthalmology service alongside the wider multidisciplinary team (such as neurology, endocrinology, AHP groups and so on).
o To produce regular audits, quality improvement projects and service evaluation for orthoptic-led neuro-ophthalmology clinics (including IIH) and the ALD service.
o Review guidelines, protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for orthoptic-led neuro-ophthalmology service (including IIH) and ALD service, in conjunction with the lead consultants for those services.
o Work as an autonomous practitioner to assess, diagnose and manage any patient referred to the Orthoptic Department.
o Participate in educational activities ran by and for the Orthoptic Department. This includes the teaching of pre-registration optometrists, medical undergraduates, junior doctors and other health care professionals, in addition to the teaching of undergraduate orthoptic students.
