With special interest in maternal-fetal medicine

Whipps Cross University Hospital

Directorate: Obstetrics and Gynaecology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic doctor to join the current Obstetrics and Gynaecology team as a specialist clinical fellow at Barts Health NHS Trust for 1 year.

Barts Health NHS Trust was created on 1 April 2012 and is the largest in the UK.

The post will be based at The Whipps Cross University Hospital . This is a non-training post but will provide valuable experience in maternal-fetal medicine and high risk obstetrics for those wishing to secure future posts, including at consultant level for applicants who already hold CCT.

Main duties of the job

Individuals will require full GMC Registration and should be post MRCOG. These posts are aimed at UK or Overseas trainee obstetricians at ST 5+ level or above, and for EU trained individuals with the appropriate level of clinical experience. The successful applicant should have already achieved basic obstetric ultrasound skills. There will be an out of hours component to the job as a senior registrar with responsibility for supervising a more junior SpR on delivery suite and covering gynaecology emergencies.

Opportunities will be given to work with the fetal medicine team together with attending the range of maternal medicine clinics offered at Whipps Cross. Post holders will be trained in obstetric ultrasound and the management of maternal medical conditions as well as in high risk antenatal and intrapartum obstetrics. There will also be opportunities to develop obstetric leadership skills and obstetric ATSM's may be supported depending on the candidates interests. Successful candidates will be encouraged to participate in teaching, research, audit and journal club. In line with our commitment to improving the working lives of our junior doctors, the duties and hours are fully compliant with the New Deal initiative.
