Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside the Tongue-tie Baby Feeding Specialist and will be responsible for providing an efficient tongue-tie assessment and frenulotomy service.

Working within their remit as a tongue-tie practitioner whilst maintaining effective working relationships with the cross-site Infant Feeding Leads.

To work according to the NMC Code of Conduct and other professional guidelines.

The candidate will possess a background registration supported by the Department of Health with the procedure falling within their scope of practice and possess advanced baby feeding skills.

They will need to have skills and experience in tongue-tie assessment using evidence-based tools.

Training and experience in Infection control, aseptic technique, managing bleeding and other complications.

The ideal candidate will be able to risk assess and decide whether proceeding with the procedure will be safe or not.

To practice in an environment where safety for mother, baby and family are paramount.

To ensure that all women receive optimum support and advice to ensure that they are able to feed their baby in their chosen method.

Where the lingual frenulum is asymptomatic and frenulotomy is not required the practitioner will ensure that the woman receives support to improve positioning and attachment. Where a baby is bottle feeding that the mother receives support and advice to do so safely and effectively.
