Junior Clinical Fellow (ST 1-3 level) in Neonatal Medicine
This job is now closed
Job summary
Applications are invited for a Junior Clinical Fellow post in Neonatal Medicine at ST1-3 (Senior House Officer) level.
The post is based in the large tertiary medico-surgical neonatal unit at the Royal London Hospital. It comes with an active academic programme and opportunities to participate in high-quality audit and quality improvement projects. Clinical Fellows have the same opportunities to participate in the educational programmes, training and teaching undertaken by the Deanery approved specialist training doctors. The work schedule is a full shift system subject to regular compliance monitoring.
Eligibility for GMC registration with licence to practice is essential and prior experience in neonatal medicine is desirable.
Main duties of the job
The neonatal unit runs at high occupancy levels, and there is a high level of direct consultant-delivered care and supervision. A fortnightly neurodevelopmental clinic is run with the community paediatrician responsible for the district Child Development Team. A specialist neonatal respiratory clinic is also conducted twice per month. The neonatal nursing intensive care course is run in conjunction with City University, and many nurses undertake extended roles in conjunction with other modular courses on the advanced care of the newborn infants.
NTS operates three daytime transfer teams: 2 dual clinicians (Doctor or ANNP and Nurse) crews responding to emergency uplifts, one single clinician team focusing on repatriations and an overnight dual clinician emergency team. A dedicated 24/7 NTS Consultant Neonatologist is available for clinical and operational support. Rotating trainees usually lead an average of 80-100 emergency transfers during 6 months. Doctors are able to log your transfers and reflect on practice as each emergency transfer is debriefed. Being co-located with the neonatal unit and working in a collaborative arrangement, there is ready access to the NTS, neonatal unit, paediatric and regional grid neonatal teaching programmes.
