Job summary

Applicants are invited to apply for the post of Clinical Fellow (ST3+ Equivalent) in Thoracic Surgery, based at the Barts Thorax Centre, St Bartholomew's Hospital, to commence in as soon as possible for a period of 12 months.

St Bartholomew's Hospital houses the state-of-the-art Barts Heart Centre, Barts Thorax Centre and the Barts Cancer Centre. The Barts Heart Centre and Thorax Centre comprise a 54 bedded dedicated thoracic unit supported by an ITU comprising of 58 beds (level 3 and level 2) and 2 dedicated thoracic surgery theatres within a 10 theatre complex serving thoracic and cardiac surgery, including two theatres offering state-of-the-art robotic and hybrid capabilities.

Main duties of the job

Thoracic surgery is currently delivered by a team of 5 consultants, 6 registrars, and junior clinical fellows, with a dedicated thoracic surgery ward and high dependency unit. There is on-site respiratory medicine and thoracic oncology support, further strengthened by co-location with the Barts Heart Centre, enabling expedient, convenient and best care of the co-morbidities common to us. The thoracic surgery department has been expanding rapidly and actively pursues innovation and service improvement to improve patient outcomes, and there are many opportunities for audit and research.

We are looking for a thoracic surgery registrar with significant previous thoracic surgery training and experience who are motivated and enthusiastic and wish to pursue a career in the specialty. In addition to your clinical duties providing care to thoracic surgery patients, managing referrals and attending the operating theatre, you will also be attending regular multidisciplinary meetings, participating in the weekly educational programme and you will be supervised to conduct a research or audit project, and be given an administrative role to develop your management skills. Time will be given for training and professional development.

The applicants must have full GMC registration with a license to practice and possess FRCS/MRCS or equivalent
