Job summary

We are looking to recruit an assistant to support the work of the Children's Community Physiotherapy Service in the borough of Tower Hamlets. You will be working with children who have a developmental disability or medical condition that affects their physical function. Your work will involve being able to travel around the borough visiting children at home and at school, implementing therapy advice set up by the therapist. Other duties include the ordering and setting up of equipment; assisting with hydrotherapy, chasing requests; dealing with queries; helping therapists run clinics and other administrative tasks.

You will be working with a large, well established and friendly team in a busy work setting . You will need to be able to manage patient data and information; prioritise and manage your own workload and communicate effectively with the therapists and multi-disciplinary teams, school staff and patient's families.

Main duties of the job

  • As part of large team of physiotherapists, you will provide client centred physiotherapy advice and input under the guidance of a qualified therapist to children with complex developmental disabilities and/or other medical conditions affecting their movement and mobility who attend mainstream and special schools in the borough.
  • Work will include attending home and school visits, fitting and delivering / collection of equipment.
  • To communicate effectively with families/carers, colleagues, other health care professionals and outside agencies regarding patient care and progress.
  • To provide a bilingual service (Sylheti and English) to children and families. This requires conveying knowledge of special techniques to families speaking English as a second language to meet local cultural needs.
  • To provide an expert bilingual support and advice to PT staff in order to assist them in developing culturally appropriate approaches for children and families.
  • To provide administrative, clinical advice and follow up support for hydrotherapy sessions.
  • To carry out general administrative/departmental duties.
  • To participate and contribute to in service wide activities e.g. meetings, supervision, projects.
