The Paediatric Emergency Department at the Royal London Children's Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (10 PAs). The post will be a substantive appointment.

The post is based at Royal London Hospital located in Whitechapel, London. The Royal London Hospital is part Barts Health NHS Trust (Royal London Hospital, Barts Hospital, The London Chest, Mile End, Whipps Cross and Newham Hospitals) and is now one of the largest trusts in the UK. It has close links to the other district general hospitals in the North East London area and provides a tertiary referral service. It is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations.

Main duties of the job

The post will support the implementation of the EWTD standards and compliance within working hours and as part of the Trust's response to achieving NHS targets including the 18 week referral to treatment target and the 4 hour wait in A&E target. The post holder will have clinical accountability for the day-to-day management ofchildren at Royal London Hospital.

The post holder will practice at an advanced level demonstrating a high level of autonomy and clinical decision-making. They will work as a highly specialised member of the inter-professional team to ensure that the clinical needs of the patient and families are met at all times. Newly qualified Consultants will be supported and mentored by senior Consultants. The post-holder will be fully accredited in Paediatrics. They will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work within multidisciplinary teams. The unit is proactively promoting quality improvement practices clinical governance, and the appointee should be able to demonstrate skills in audit, risk management and evidence-based guidelines. The post-holder will be required to teach undergraduate students, postgraduate medical staff and other professional groups.

Applicants are expected to have worked as a consultant in an MTC for a minimum of 1 year. Applicants are strongly advised to arrange a visit to the hospital to discuss the post with members of the Paediatric Emergency Medicine clinical team.
