Job summary

The London Cardiovascular Project approved the case for change for the way that specialist Vascular services are provided as part of a reorganisation of Cardiac and Stroke services across London. Barts Health NHS Trust became the designated specialist Vascular unit in North and East London.

The hospitals have been caring for the people of East London and the City for centuries and been at the forefront of clinical care, teaching and research since the establishment of the country's first medical school here in 1785. Barts Health NHS Trust is one of Britain's leading healthcare providers and the largest trust in the NHS. It was created on 1 April 2012 by bringing together three trusts: Barts and The London NHS Trust, Newham University Hospital NHS Trust and Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust. The new trust has a turnover of approximately £1.1 billion and approximately 15,000 employees. Annually the Trust sees 135,000 attendances at our Emergency Department and Minor Injuries Unit, 380,000 outpatients and 86,000 inpatients at our hospitals

Main duties of the job

We are looking for the best talent to lead our ambitious new healthcare organisation. In return, the Barts Health will provide unsurpassed professional development opportunities, enabling investment in a range of new initiatives that would mean:

  • Doctors and nurses in training will be able to gain experience in different hospitals along the whole patient pathway
  • There would be greater opportunity for career progression - we could retain good staff who might otherwise leave to gain promotion
  • Becoming world-class will enable us to recruit some of the best doctors and researchers in the world - who can share their knowledge and experience
  • Joining forces with other partners in an Academic Health Science System will mean that staff would be better able to secure funds and pool their talents to develop new technology, techniques and treatments

About us

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate, and support an inclusive working environment where staff treat one another with dignity and respect. We aim to create an equitable working environment where every individual can fulfil their potential.

Barts Health supports The Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.
