Job summary
We are looking for a locum consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty. The post will be for 1 year with a focus on elective patients. You will be predominantly based at Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre in Newham which is an accredited Surgical Hub but with regular clinical sessions at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel and Whipps Cross University Hospital. You will be joining a department of 55 consultant orthopaedic surgeons.
You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and preferably be on the Specialist Registrar or within 3 months of obtaining CCT.

Main duties of the job
This post provides an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic group of orthopaedic surgeons who are rapidly forging an impressive reputation as a strongly cohesive, progressive department that consistently strives to provide the best possible care for our patients.
The successful candidate is expected to have experience in managing routine elective hip and knee pathologies as well as revision arthroplasty surgery and soft tissue knee reconstruction.
The post-holder will adopt a key role in supporting the development and delivery of the Arthroplasty service across Barts Health and support the regional Major Revision Network.They will be responsible for:
- Contributing to the provision of elective hip and knee services across the trust
- Ensuring maximal compliance with GIRFT, best practice tariff and other national metrics
- Ensuring high quality surgical care for all patients
- Working with the Arthroplasty lead and wider MDT in developing improved pathways and guidelines in arthroplasty at Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre
- Contributing to the department's training and research strategy, with emphasis on arthroplasty, revision arthroplasty and hip fracture care

- Completed training in Trauma and Orthopaedics
- Full GMC registration
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview, CESR or European Community Right
Desirable
- Experience at consultant level working in a major trauma centre
- Evidence of clinical interest in fragility fracture management
