We are currently looking for a part time Band 2 Health Care Assistant to join our Day Surgery unit on Forest Ward at Newham University Hospital.

The key role is to maintain patients clinical observation, escorting them to the theatre and also maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients and visitors. This is to support the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care to our patients.

As a day surgery unit, we specialised in various types of surgery. This include Hernia repair, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Varicose vein repair, Myomectomy, Hysterectomy and other varying degree of delicate gynaecological surgery.

The post offers an individual opportunity to work closely with our patients and nursing staff delivering high standards of care and providing a good environment for our patients going back into the community.

Main duties of the job

The Nursing Assistant works under the direction or supervision of qualified nurses/midwives to implement care planned by Registered Professionals. This includes preparing the patients for surgery and escorting them to the theatre . The Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) is proactive in monitoring and anticipating patients' needs within the boundaries of the Job Description.
