We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Psychological Practioner to join our Barts Health Community Psychology Palliative and End of Life service. The post-holder will contribute to delivering a high quality, evidence-based, holistic clinical psychology service for people at the end of life in Tower Hamlets, including workforce support and development.
The Barts Health Community Psychology Palliative and End of Life service is co-located with the Community Palliative Care Team at St Joseph's Hospice. The End of Life psychology service provides integrated care and workforce support by working across different physical health services and settings; providing specialist end of life provision for community and hospital MDTs, clinical nurse specialists and district nurses.
The Psychological Practioner will work alongside the Lead Psychologist to provide a comprehensive clinical psychology assessment and intervention service, including home visits, to patients requiring specialist End of Life Care, with cancer, cardiac, respiratory or other life-limiting illnesses, who are resident in Tower Hamlets. To provide support to individuals /couples alongside carers and families as appropriate.
To provide specialised psychological teaching, consultation and reflective practice to the medical, nursing and allied health professional staff in the health and Palliative Care Teams (community and hospital) with which we work, to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a comprehensive clinical psychology assessment and intervention service, including home visits, to patients requiring specialist End of Life Care, with cancer, cardiac, respiratory or other life-limiting illnesses, who are resident in Tower Hamlets (TH). To provide support to individuals/couples alongside carers and families as appropriate.
- To contribute to the provision of a high quality specialist clinical psychology service within the specialist Community Palliative Care Team (CPCT) at St Joseph's Hospice.
- To support the hospital-based specialist palliative care teams at The Royal London Hospital and St. Batholomew's Hospital working with TH inpatients.
- To provide specialised psychological advice, support, teaching, and consultation to the medical, nursing and allied health professional staff in the health (heart failure, respiratory, oncology) and Palliative Care Teams (community and hospital) with which we work, to enhance their knowledge and skills in the psychological aspects of End of Life Care.
- To offer consultation and training to non-psychology professional groups working in acute, primary care, non-statutory and community settings including specialist nurses, GPs and district/community nurses concerning End of Life Care.
- To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, holding responsibility for a defined area and/or caseload within the End of Life service. This may include the supervision of trainee psychologists.
