Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our Estates Department at Newham University Hospital (Barts Health).This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Electrical Crafts person to undertake a wide range of duties within a busy and dedicated in-house workforceWe are looking for people interested in working in a hospital environment which will enable delivering a high standard of care to our patients and other service users.

You should have good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team and as an individual. You will have a willingness to develop skills and competencies as required for the role.

Main duties of the job

Repair of designated plant and equipment within the limits of their trade, having the ability to fault find, diagnose and repair using their technical knowledge on equipment.

  • To undertake duties of a Competent Person (LV) in accordance with the relevant NHS HTM Guidance to prevent danger or injury and to accept a permit to work from an Authorised Person (LV). To work safely on ELV/LV and generated electrical systems in accordance with all statutory electrical regulations as appointed Competent Person (LV) on specific sites as directed.

  • Undertake day to day reactive works and general maintenance activities, at the request of the Line Manager and report back any faults/issues
  • Follow planned maintenance schedules and carry out planned preventive maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Trust policy and Standard Operating Procedures (SDP's)
  • Interpret and work from instruction, drawings and specification appropriate to the electrical trade without constant supervision. Undertake on-call duties as part of the on call team
  • To be conversant with the use of technology, e.g. Computer Assisted Facilities Management and WEB mobile smart phone technology for management reporting.
  • To use materials/substances with regards to Health & Safety & COSHH regulations

  • Recognised Apprenticeship (To City & Guilds 238/NVQ level 3 standard BTEC/ONC or equivalent)

  • Knowledge of Electrical Installation including Fire Alarm systems and standby generators

Desirable

  • C&G 18th Edition Certificate Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671 as defined by the latest edition of the Electrical Safety Code for Low Voltage Systems for Competent Person (LV)
  • C&G 2391 Level 3 certificate in Inspection Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations
  • Knowledge of Hospital Health Building Notifications (HTM's)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of building maintenance and systems

Desirable

  • Relevant experience of NHS hospital environment or similar establishments
  • Experience of working on specialist hospital equipment
  • Lone Working experience
  • Experience of following detailed engineering/electrical drawing and specifications
