Research ST1 in Integrated Sexual Health: 12 months fixed term

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated doctor to work in Barts Health NHS Trust Sexual Health Services. These fixed term posts are to commence from December 2023.

We operate 2 Centres of Excellence and multiple satellite services for Sexual Health across our East London network seeing over 100,000 attendances per year. We offer services 7 days a week including evening clinics. Barts Health has a cohort of approximately 5,000 HIV positive patients who are a diverse population of African and Eastern European men and women plus an increasing proportion of men who have sex with men (MSM). We also see numerous late presenters as in-patients.

The post is suitable for those interested in pursuing a career in Genitourinary Medicine or Community Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. This post will provide a fantastic chance to gain wide clinical and research experience, excellent supervision and many teaching and training opportunities in integrated sexual health.

Previous experience in the specialties would be an advantage but is not necessary as training will be given.

Main duties of the job

The Postholder will see unselected patients attending the walk-in ISH clinic with supervision from Consultant staff. Patients present with a wide variety of sexual health and contraceptive needs. The trainee will be expected to complete mini-CEX and DOPS with clinical supervision and will be mentored by middle grade staff with ongoing educational supervision from consultant staff.

The Postholder will be given the opportunity to attend specialist ISH clinics such as contraception, dermatology and will also be able to access HIV outpatient clinics.

The post-holder will work as part of our expanding GUM & HIV research group - The SHARE collaborative - based within the Ambrose King Centre and Queen Mary University of London.

The post holder will be the lead junior doctor assigned to ongoing NIHR and commercial HIV prevention and long acting antiretroviral treatment trials, involved in patient recruitment and follow up, gaining experience of implementation of research trials in ISH walk in and HIV outpatient clinic settings. In addition the post-holder will assist with current and forthcoming mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) research within SHARE, according to need and the post-holder's experience.
