Job summary
We are recruiting for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated senior nurse to join the cardiogenic shock (CS) programme at Barts Heart Centre. You will support the cardiogenic shock lead in the delivery and growth of this innovative service.
You will work closely with the lead for the cardiogenic shock service as well as clinical teams across intensive care, cardiology, perfusion and research. You will provide direction and leadership to all members of the multidisciplinary team both at Barts Heart Centre and clinical areas in network hospitals where CS patients are likely to present.
There will be opportunities for you to further your professional development with access to courses available through the Trust and with our partner education institutions.
Your primary base will be St Bartholomew's Hospital. However, there is also flexibility for you to work from home where appropriate. You will be expected to wok across the Network which may involve occasional travel to referring sites.

Main duties of the job
You will provide nursing leadership in the delivery of the cardiogenic shock programme at Barts Heart Centre and across the North East London ICS. As lead nurse for cardiogenic shock, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient management of the service. You will do this through working collaboratively with referring sites across NE London to improve education and training in the identification and referral of suitable patients to the CS service. You will also work with referring sites to review cases and support early repatriation of patients back to their referring hospital once they have recovered. You will be expected to provide he on-going support for patients not transferred to Barts Heart Centre through follow-up and advice.
There will be additional non-clinical responsibilities relating to audit, registry data submission and development of cardiogenic shock research at Barts Heart Centre.

Develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships with the ACCU and cardiology teams including those in the cardiac catheterization laboratories
Understand, explore and resolve any barriers to CS referrals
Develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships with the CS champions at referring hospitals as well as clinicians and nursing staff in all clinical areas caring for patients with CS
Update and iterate CS escalation protocols based on new national / international evidence and guidance and ensure any new guidance and policies are disseminated as appropriate to the relevant teams and services.
Engage with referrers and stakeholders through bi-annual referrer meetings, after-action reviews and outcomes from morbidity and mortality meetings
Ensure that practice is monitored and where it is identified that care could have been improved, this should be reported appropriately via the Trust reporting structures
Identify potential failure to rescue scenarios and work with referrers to mitigate future scenarios
Feed-back to referrers when there is good practice
Facilitating debriefing and psychological support for the MDT
Update referrers regarding clinical outcomes of patients transferred in to BHC
Escalate concerns and any other issues promptly to the relevant individual or department.
Deal proactively with all enquiries from pathway users
Support the tracking of patients supported through the cardiogenic shock pathway adhering to information governance and data protection policies throughout
