Job summary
We are looking for a consultant spinal surgeon with a special interest in paediatric spinal surgery. Your clinical duties will be at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel; potentially also with some sessions at Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre in Newham. You will be joining a department of 43 consultant orthopaedic surgeons.
You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and preferably be on the Specialist Registrar or within 3 months of obtaining CCT.

Main duties of the job
This role is to support the spinal practice at Barts Health, in particular the paediatric spine service. The spinal sub-specialty is a challenged part of the Barts Health 18 week elective programme. The on-call commitment will be at The Royal London Hospital.
The successful candidate must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and preferably be on the Specialist Registrar or equivalent, and will be expected to develop his/her own sub-speciality within paediatric orthopaedics.
There is also a goal to develop a consultant-led designated spinal trauma rota, once sufficient recruitment to enable this has been completed.
Applicants should possess full GMC registration, and either be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.

- Leadership, development and organisation on the services in his/her charge in line with the Trusts business plans. Liaison and communication with the lead clinician, General Manager, Service Manager, Clinical Director for Orthopaedic & Plastic Surgery and the Surgery / Cancer CAG (Clinical Academic Group) Director
- A major contribution to the departments ongoing efforts to improve efficiency in both the delivery and the management of patient care including the 18 week referral to treatment standard, reducing length of stay and managing the ratio of new to follow up outpatient attendances in line with commissioner expectations
