Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Sonographer to support & lead the sonography service at Mile End & Royal London Hospital. The successful candidate will work closely with the Ultrasound Manager, Lead Sonographers, Practice Educators & Site Lead Radiographer to ensure ultrasound service runs smoothly with staff working at the top of their licence.

The post holder must show excellent communication & interpersonal skills, provide & develop a high-quality ultrasound training programme at the Mile End Community Diagnostic Service. The successful candidate will work closely with the other lead Sonographers across the trust & offer a flexible approach to work. They will have, good organisational skills & demonstrate the ability to prioritise their workload & liaise with other departments. Statutory registration with a regulatory body and DMU or Post Graduate Cert / Diploma in Medical Ultrasound is essential.

This post will be based at the Mile End site & the successful post holder will lead & manage the networked service across Mile End, Royal London & St Barts site. Developing advanced clinical pathways & improving skill mix will be a core element, as will managing the site lead sonographers and their teams.

Main duties of the job

Based at Mile End (MEH) Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), the successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management of the networked ultrasound service across the MEH, Royal London (RLH) & St Bartholomew's (SBH) sites. The post holder will provide direction for the ultrasound service, be responsible for ultrasound governance, embed national policy & guidelines, & provide managerial support to the modality lead sonographers & ultrasound team.

The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring the appropriate imaging, reporting & management of all ultrasound patients. They will undertake & oversee clinical work withinstandards of practice adhering to national & local ultrasound guidelines, whilst leading the cross-trust integration of the service, develop & review departmental protocols & partake in research programmes. A key focus will be recovery of the diagnostic backlog in Ultrasound, ensuring that capacity meets demand & thetraining programme is fit for purpose, escalating where appropriate when gaps & safety issues are detected.

The post holder will chair departmental meetings, representing the Ultrasound Imaging service at site & group meetings & participate in the North East London Ultrasound Modality Working Group contributing to the development of the services across the Imaging Network. They will be an autonomous practitioner without clinical supervision & expand the ultrasound service at MEH & enhance the acute & tertiary sites.

  • Post Graduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound.
