Main duties of the job
This is a full-time post for doctors with a minimum of four years' experience in Anaesthesia, for an average of 48 hours per week, mostly antisocial.
Applicants should have an interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia but also wish to maintain and develop their skills in anaesthesia over a broad range of general, orthopaedic and gynaecological specialties.
The post has a special focus on Obstetrics with a significant role in providing anaesthetic cover for the very busy high risk Obstetric Unit at NUH.
The majority of the successful candidate's rota will be on Labour Ward (including C-section lists) and Emergency Theatre, both daytime and out of hours.
The cover out of hours is provided by a team of three resident Anaesthetists, with the consultant anaesthetist on-call from home.
Regular days in elective theatres (orthopaedic, gynae or general surgery) will also be part of the rota.
During the day, a staff grade is partnered with a consultant obstetric anaesthetist allowing for training and development. Out of hours, there are two staff grade anaesthetists allocated to Labor Ward duties together with a third anaesthetist providing cover for surgical emergencies, patient transfer and paediatric resuscitation.
