Job description

Job responsibilities

Newham in Plaistow, east London, is a busy district hospital and part of Barts Health NHS Trust, which is the largest trust in the NHS. It was created on 1 April 2012 by bringing together three trusts: Barts and The London NHS Trust, Newham University Hospital NHS Trust and Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust. The London Borough of Newham serves a population of over 373,000. It has one of the youngest and most ethnically diverse populations in the country. We have close links with Barts and the London Medical School and they send us clinical students from October to December in various blocks. Doctors of all grades are encouraged to help with teaching in conjunction with the clinical teaching fellows.

Although the hospital is relatively small, it has a high turnover of patients and there is a lot of pathology. This offers excellent experience of a wide range of acute and chronic conditions with varying degrees of complexity. We are very interactive & supportive and like to teach. We have an excellent reputation for offering high standards of training for all grades of junior doctor in practical procedures and outpatient clinics. Our consultants sit on gastroenterology and internal medicine ARCP and ST4 interview panels. Several of our trainees have gone on to get specialist national training numbers (NTNs) in gastroenterology. We want to support our trainees and help them progress with their career.
