Applications are invited for the above post which will be based at the Barts Heart Centre, Barts Health NHS Trust.

Barts Health NHS Trust is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in Britain and the cardiovascular centre is one of the largest of its kind in Europe, providing sector wide care to a population of over 6 million.

The successful applicant will be joining a team of 6 WTE GUCH consultants, 7 WTE specialist nurses and 3 dedicated GUCH fellows, who provide all aspects of specialist care to over 12000 adult CHD patients.

Applicants should have completed subspecialist training in congenital heart disease and should have a sub-speciality interest in Aortopathy and echocardiography.

Applicants will be expected to participate in a 1:7 on-call rota for the GUCH service and will also provide a consult service for Aortopathy inpatients.

Applicants wishing to apply for this post should possess the MRCP or equivalent, be GMC-registered with a license to practice and hold specialist registration.

Main duties of the job

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.

Leadership, development and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trusts' business plans. Liaison and communication with the Clinical Director for ACHD, General Manager and Director for the Cardiovascular Clinical Academic Group.

With the agreement of the Clinical Director and Clinical Academic Group Director, development of his/her own interests and sub-specialities within the specialty, in line with business planning principles and commissioners' approval, including active participation in research programmes.
