Barts Health NHS Trust and St Bartholomew's Hospital invites you to apply for this exciting opportunity to join the Specialised Cardiology directorate as part of the Barts Heart Centre. Clinical sessions will also take place at UCH.

The Barts Heart Centre is the biggest in the UK with its complement of 10 catherisation labs (5 of which are dedicated to Intervention) and 10 cardiothoracic theatres.

St Bartholomew's Hospital is one of a group of hospitals - Barts Health NHS Trust - the group providing a huge range of clinical services to the population of East London, the City of London, and beyond.

Opportunities exist within all Barts Heart Centre departments to undertake research and education as a part of the Centre of Excellence Strategy of the Trusts.

Main duties of the job

This appointment is for a Consultant in Clinical pharmacology with a specialist interest in Hypertension. The post is based at both St Bartholomew's Hospital and the Royal London Hospital. The post-holder will expand our team at the internationally renowned Barts BP Centre of Excellence. The appointee will be joining the academic department of Clinical Pharmacology which has 2 full time academic consultants and 2 full time NHS consultant and Specialist Trainees. They will contribute to the departmental objectives based on excellence in clinical care, teaching and research

The Clinical Pharmacology team manage both the Hypertension service (inpatient and outpatient) and have developed a further specialist interest in Cardiovascular Autonomic dysfunction including disorders such as Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (see below for further details). The Clinical Pharmacology department sits within the Cardiovascular Clinical Academic Group Barts Health NHS Trust.

The post-holder will specialise in the investigation and treatment of complex BP disorders working collaboratively with the other consultants in the department of Clinical Pharmacology. We provide both secondary and tertiary level care for Hypertension. The department have also developed a specialist interest in Cardiovascular Autonomic dysfunction and run clinics for this at Barts hospital. If interested then training can be provided to the post holder to further develop skills in this area.
