Job summary

We are currently recruiting for (1) post at Junior Clinical Fellow Level (ST1-2 Equivalent) in Neurosurgery for a six month period in the first instance, although longer appointments can be arranged for the successful candidate following a suitable trial period. There is a dedicated in-house Consultant-led Neurosurgical teaching programme*, and successful applicants will be supported in their broader professional and career development, particularly with reference to attaining the MRCS examination.

Main duties of the job

The post of Junior Clinical Fellow is tenable for 6 months and renewable for further 6 months by mutual agreement.

The Neurology and The Neurosurgery Departments of Barts Health NHS Trust are sited at The Royal London Hospital and the post holder will be based at The Royal London Hospital.

The post holder will work within the firm of ST1-2/ST3-8/Clinical Fellows. The successful candidate will work within a team providing neurosurgical care for neurosurgery in patients and conduct the daily ward round with them. We have recently instituted Neuro-Trauma as a supra-specialist service (the first in the UK) which is Consultant delivered on a 1 in 4 rota and supported by a 2 full time Clinical Nurse Specialists. There will be the opportunity to work closely with the Neuro-Trauma Consultants, the CNS, ACCU, ED and Rehabilitation Services. Additional time within the weekly rota will be made available for attending theatre lists and outpatient clinics, depending upon the training requirements of the individual candidate.

The post holder will participate in the ST 1-2 (SHO) on-call rota which is currently as a 1 in 8 full-shift on call which is fully compliant with the new deal and the EWTD.
