Job summary

We are looking for an MRI Clinical specialist HCPC registered Radiographer to work in close conjunction with the MRI Superintendent Radiographer and team at our brand-new MRI unit opening in September 2022 at Mile End Hospital which will be part of the new Community Diagnostics Centre and the existing Early Diagnosis Centre.

This post gives you the opportunity to use your clinical expertise in MRI to set up and help run the MRI service at our new centre. Encouragement will be given to staff with accredited post graduate training in MRI and have previously been involved in applications on a new MRI scanner.

The centre will be equipped with a 3T wide bore Siemens MAGNETOM Vida (DE) scanner.

MAGNETOM Vida - the first BioMatrix system - leverages the intelligent combination of Tim 4G and the Siemens unique BioMatrix technology to be ready to embrace the unique set of challenges that each and every patient brings to the MRI.

We will be providing a service to a wide range of cancer, urgent, rheumatology and routine outpatients across North, East of London.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate post graduate experience in MRI. Training of radiographers in MRI will be essential, as will the review and implementation of new scanning protocols in conjunction with MRI Superintendent Radiographer and Radiologists ensuring all staff are aware of the new studies/procedures. The candidate will be required to work full time on a rota covering Monday-Sunday 08:00-20:00.

Main duties of the job

To work closely with the MRI Superintendent Radiographer leading the radiographic staff, to develop an efficient MRI service for the Community Diagnostic Centre / Early Diagnosis Centre at Mile End Hospital.

To offer clinical specialist knowledge for the MRI service, standardising protocols, and helping to manage the patient bookings and waiting lists, the rotation of radiographers and imaging assistants throughout the MRI department.

To help organise and oversee the training of radiographers and students in all aspects of MRI scanning, including comprehensive competency assessments.

To provide an effective clinical specialist role for the MRI service as part of the Community Diagnostic Centre / Early Diagnosis Centre at Mile End Hospital during the set up phase and there after operation of the department.

In conjunction with the MRI Managers, promote continuous improvements in service delivery and quality within all areas of the MRI service, using modern methods to improve productivity, leading in the delivery of service and workforce transformation, and re-design.

The Post-holder will help manage the work of staff in the department and develop a culture in which members of staff are continuously improving the delivery of high quality services.

Organisational

Help the Superintendent radiographer to ensure effective co-ordination of MRI radiogreaphers and their training in the delivery of the MRI service at Mile End MRI as part of the Community Diagnostic Centre / Early Diagnosis Centre.

Ensure all staff use equipment appropriately, that it is maintained and tested with corrective action instigated in a safe and timely manner, ensuring minimal downtime.

Carry out the responsibilities of the MRI Responsible Person for the MRI service at the Community Diagnostic Centre / Early Diagnosis Centre.

Ensure Health and Safety regulations are complied with and risk assessments are undertaken and reviewed.

Responsible for reporting incidents and near misses, and establishing changes in the service as a response to incidents.

Responsible for the induction and training of nominated Radiographers.

Use a logical approach to provide effective problem solving, both technical and administrative.

In the absence of the Superintendent radiographer, organise the staffing Rota that is associated with the normal running of the department. The RIS diary must be managed in conjunction with this.

Managerial

To help regularly monitor and evaluate the MRI service delivery with particular regard to patient waiting times in line with Government and Trust targets.

To ensure the department is fully stocked with the necessary pharmaceuticals and MRI specific equipment.

To actively encourage audit on a regular basis, improving the service for staff and patients by extending professional and departmental boundaries.

Help to develop annual MRI service action plans, ensuring deliverables are achieved by target dates, taking remedial action where appropriate and informing the MRI Lead

Radiographer and clinical modality leads where there is deviation from the agreed plan.

Contribute to the development of guidelines and policies for the MRI service.

Mentor the team of radiographers in the MRI service, maintaining accurate personnel records, monitoring sickness and absence.

Ensure full documentation with regard to induction of newimaging staff within MRI.

Take a supportive role in the recruitment and selection of radiography/technical staff for MRI, in consultation with the Lead Radiographer and clinical modality leads.

Work with the modality superintendent to ensure the training needs of MRI staff are met.

Ensure a high level of knowledge and expertise is achieved by implementing support strategies so all members of the MRI service meet their training needs and improve their clinical skills.

Appraise nominated MRI staff, providing recommendations for each individuals need for development and PDP in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework.
