Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior Patient Pathway Coordinator to work closely with our clinical teams to develop services and meet the demands of our population. We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who want to provide the very best in care. The post holder will play a key role in actively managing the administrative processes of Trauma patient pathways for the Plastic Surgery department at The Royal London Hospital to ensure a smooth and efficient service for patients throughout their journey. Main duties of the job

The post holder will play a key role in actively managing the administrative processes of patient pathways and the administrative staff for the Plastic Surgery Department based at The Royal London Hospital. The purpose of this role is to ensure a smooth and efficient service for patients throughout their journey and to provide an effective administration service to the multidisciplinary team. The post is pivotal to the running of the department.

As well as our trauma service, we also have a large and expanding elective service. In particular, as we work to address the backlog from the pandemic, we have temporarily increased the size of our admin and medical teams to meet the needs of our patients. This is a key leadership growth & development post to oversee and coordinate this administrative support.

Key results areas

  • Effective and efficient patient pathway management (including but not limited to, responsibility for clinic management, including size, closures, letters and follow up from clinic and post-surgery)
  • Review and management of patient tracking list (admitted and non-admitted)
  • Effective and efficient patient care day to day (including but not limited to, responsibility for patient access to the service and the quality and timeliness of response)
  • Initial management of family contact centre, PALs and AIRs responses
  • Improved administrative function of the service

Key functions include:

  • Day-to-day delivery of services to patients in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints.
  • Manage the Key Performance targets in your area, and demonstrate continuous improvement in patient experience with particular reference to a balanced demand and capacity plan
  • You will support the directorates implementation of service improvement as appropriate and general development of services. You will pay a key part in supporting change in supporting clinical teams plan and review care pathways.
  • Line manage Senior Patient Pathway Coordinator for specialty including recruitment, appraisal,
  • Development, performance and allocation of work/resources
  • Manage the implementation of SOPs, admin systems, admin service improvements including new technology for the service
  • Ensure quality of admin services provided to patients and staff by the admin team
  • Resolve problems, escalating to service manager where necessary
  • Implement effective pathways

Whilst it is likely the post holder will be linked to specific multidisciplinary teams they will also be required to work across the department and the Trusts multiple sites to ensure cross-cover is provided. The Royal London Hospital Plastic Surgery and Spinal Surgery departments are growing to and undertaking work at other sites may be necessary.
