Job summary

Barts Heart Centre are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic and collaborative leaders to take up two Principal Cardiologist positions. One of the roles will have responsibility for leading on Echo services, and the second will focus on Rhythm Management and Cath Labs. Both posts are 8bs and will report into the General Manager for the directorate.

The team is inclusive and supportive and supports a number of services across the Barts Heart Centre including one of Europes busiest Cardiac centres. The Heart Centre Cath Lab has 10 labs, and a busy diagnostic centre. Career development is encouraged, and staff are given the space amongst their clinical duties to develop both personal research interests, but also CPD.

The centre is biggest cardiac diagnostic centre in the UK, and as such these two roles are pivotal within the heart centre and will give the successful candidates the opportunity to network both regionally, nationally and beyond.

Main duties of the job

Barts Health NHS Trust cardiac physiology department provides a specialist EP and cardiac device service based at the Barts Heart Centre and non-invasive cardiac testing at the UCLH, Royal London, Newham and Whipps Cross Hospitals. As the accountable lead for BH the post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all departments deliver the service tothe required level of quality at specified sites within the available level of resource.The post holder will lead their services at BHC and also have managerial responsibilities at specific sites across the Trust for pay and non-pay budgetary management, staff management and development, service and policy development and service delivery.

There are 3 x 8bs within the Physiology Structure at SBH - 1 covering networks, CDC and NEL diagnostic strategy, the 2nd post covers Echo and the 3rd covers Rhythm disorders and Cath labs.A key function of the role will be to develop a strategy for the delivery of the service across

Barts Health to ensure that services are delivered in a standardised way and to the requiredlevel of quality at all sites

To participate fully in the Trusts policy on appraisal of self and others including knowledge and skills process by reviewing performance, setting objectives and providing regular feedback to direct line reports and ensuring that a system of supervision and appraisal is fully implemented within the service area.To ensure that all new appointments undergo a period of local induction and have access to a senior member staff acting as mentor to support theirdevelopment.
