Job summary

The Department of Endocrinology at St Bartholomew's Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust, are currently welcoming applications for a full-time (10PAs) substantive consultant post. The successful candidate will join the existing endocrinology team in providing high quality care to endocrine and general medicine patients on the St Bartholomew's hospital site. This is a new post, the need for which arises from a combination of year-on-year growth in referral practice, additional complex work as a result of two international centre of excellence awards and a backlog of cases that had arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Endocrinology at St Bartholomew's provides secondary, tertiary and quaternary endocrine services to East London, The City, Inner and Outer NE London and many centres around and beyond the UK. The department has developed a high international reputation for its research, teaching and clinical activities, and recently received two separate international centre of excellence awards. It employs a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating adult and paediatric clinical endocrinology, and basic science in biochemistry and molecular biology to facilitate the investigation and treatment of endocrine disorders throughout lifespan. The work of the department embraces all areas of clinical and molecular endocrinology, and is underpinned by internationally renowned expertise in clinical endocrinology and an extensive tertiary referral base.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join the endocrinology team in providing high quality care to endocrine and general medicine patients on the St Bartholomew's Hospital site, including face-to-face and virtual outpatient clinics, and inpatient care on the wards. They will be required to contribute to all clinical governance activities and will be expected to participate in professional medical responsibilities, training junior medical staff and contributing to the clinical research portfolio. Please note that the attached job description is currently pending RCP approval.
