Clinical Research Fellow in Fetal Medicine
Applications are invited for one post based at the Royal London Hospital but with rotations across other Fetal Medicine Units within Barts Health, to commence as soon as possible for a period of 6 months. This post provides an excellent opportunity for training for an obstetric trainee, sonographer or midwife sonographer with solid obstetric ultrasound skills who wishes to pursue exposure in Fetal Medicine and be involved in the research activities within the Unit.
A MINIMUM of 12 months experience in hands-on obstetric ultrasound is essential. Candidates without any ultrasound experience will NOT be shortlisted.
Main duties of the job
The Royal London Hospital is the tertiary referral centre for fetal and maternal medicine services within Barts Health NHS Trust and beyond, providing specialist multidisciplinary care for pregnancies complicated by fetal and maternal medical conditions and for women with a high risk of massive haemorrhage, including abnormally invasive placentas.
The Fetal Medicine Centre at Royal London Hospital has rapidly expanded over the last 5 years to provide specialist diagnosis and management of fetal abnormalities. The unit is led by sub-specialist consultants and offers training to national and international clinical fellows. The centre serves the local population as well referrals from 6 regional hospitals and manages complex fetal medicine, fetal surgical abnormalities, including invasive intra-uterine procedures. Intrauterine surgery is currently carried out at King's College Hospital with a plan provide this service at Royal London Hospital within 2 years.
There are weekly joint multi-disciplinary clinics including fetal cardiology (in conjunction with Great Ormond Street Hospital), paediatric surgery, paediatric urology and neonatal medicine. Preterm surveillance, morbidly adherent placenta and integrated multiple births clinics are also run weekly. The unit is supported by an onsite fetal MRI service.
