RESEARCH FELLOW IN CRITICAL CARE AND PERIOPERATIVE MEDICINE
The Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine Research Department at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in conjunction with the Adult Critical Care Department at The Royal London Hospital has an exciting opportunity for two Clinical Research Fellows to work on established translational research projects. The Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine research group has an internationally recognised track record in delivering critical care, peri-operative medicine, renal medicine research outputs. In addition, the group runs a successful MSc programme in Critical Care Medicine. This highly successful research department is led by a group of clinical academics including Professor Rupert Pearse, Dr Gareth Ackland, Dr Zudin Puthucheary and Dr John Prowle, supported by Educational Lead and honorary senior clinical lecturer Dr Parjam Zolfaghari.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking to employ an ambitious and diligent clinical research fellow to join a large and established research group for 12 months with a view to undertaking preparatory work and funding applications to undertake a higher academic degree. An opportunity to undertake this role as a clinical teaching fellow with a focus on clinical education is also available. The post-holder will be expected to undertake some clinical duties in the critical care department at The Royal London Hospital, however the focus of this post includes substantial protected time to engage in a research or educational project under the joint supervision of clinical academics and/or laboratory scientists at The William Harvey Research Institute where this is appropriate.

This is an ideal post for candidates intending to pursue an academic career and highly performing research fellows will be encouraged to enrol for a higher degree with Queen Mary, University of London. Candidates intending to specialise in intensive care medicine, anaesthesia, surgery or medicine specialities would all be suitable for this post.

We do however encourage those in roles that have face to face contact with patients to be double vaccinated against COVID-19 (unless they are medically exempt), and are continuing to support the vaccination uptake for all staff as this remains the best line of defence.
