Job summary

We are looking for a Consultant Urological Surgeon with a Specialist Interest in Robotic Prostatectomy and Pelvic Surgery, to further develop our service..

Key duties will be supervising and running operating lists, core and specialist clinics, diagnostics, on call cover, and care for patients on wards in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including ward nurses and specialist nursing teams. The unit is very active in research and audit and the post holder will be expected to fully participate in this activity.

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and preferably be on the Specialist Registrar or within 6 months of obtaining CCST.

Main duties of the job

The post is a consultant post in Urological surgery based at Barts Health NHS Trust and the University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be an employee of BartsHealth.

This is a substantive consultant appointment with 8.5 PA DCC and 1.5 PA SPA commitment. Five PA activity will be at UCLH and rest 5PA will be at Barts Health. The post holder is expected to lead the prostate cancer pathway and perform leadership role at the Barts Health SMDT.

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, and either be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder is expected to provide comprehensive care to Barts Health urology patients. The specialist care will be related to pelvic urological cancer patients with focus on prostate cancer. The post holder will be responsible for entire prostate cancer pathway being involved in diagnostic and therapeutic arms, conducting diagnostic and specialist MDT clinics and performing robotic prostate surgery at the UCLH tertiary referral centre. In addition to robotic operating list at UCLH, the post holder will be expected to attend the robotics departmental meeting at the UCLH. The regular commitments at the RLH will include weekly ward round of inpatients at RLH, attending weekly departmental and SMDT meeting at RLH and SBH, Prostate MRI review, diagnostics and sMDT clinic. There is Urology on call commitment attached to this post which will be at RLH on 1:9 frequency. The admin and SPA activity at RLH will be integrated in job plan in coordination with commitments at RLH and UCLH. The post holder is expected to support occasional urological pelvic surgical needs of colorectal and gynaeoncology colleagues. The post holder will be provided departmental team support and secretarial support in line with other consultant colleagues.

The post holder is expected to lead the prostate cancer pathway for Barts Health. This is planned to be a funded leadership role and will entail responsibility to maintain a high quality care and improve the prostate cancer pathway for Barts Health patients.

The Government has announced that the legal requirement for all NHS workers in England, to be double vaccinated, is currently under legislative review.

We do however encourage those in roles that have face to face contact with patients to be double vaccinated against COVID-19 (unless they are medically exempt), and are continuing to support the vaccination uptake for all staff as this remains the best line of defence.
