Job summary
We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic midwives with at least one year's experience to join our community Integrated team at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of working patterns by providing integrated continuity of carer to low-risk women who elect to birth in our Alongside Birth Centre that are consistent with the recommendations of all relevant reports and guidelines. The post holder is also expected to do two on- call in a month.
We provide Maternity Services to approximately 5400 women a year and accommodate our women in very modern up to date facilitates. We have a level 3 Neonatal unit situated within the hospital as well as excellent facilities in Fetal Medicine. We are baby friendly hospital with fully accreditation by UNICEF Baby friendly initiatives since 2012. The maternity staff are also skilled and able to support parents who chose to formula feed their babies in a sensitive and effective manner to ensure informed decision.

Building on our existing work around normalising birth we have expanding our services at the Royal London hospital site to include an alongside midwifery-led unit providing choice for women and improving their birthing experience.
Main duties of the job
In line with the Better Births Initiative and NHS Long Term Plan recommendation, we have two Midwifery led Continuity Carer (MCoC) teams i.e., home birth and Group Practice Continuity carer teams. The Home birth team provides case loading care to low risk women whose choice is to birth at home. Whilst GPMCoC being a pilot team caters for women regardless of their obstetrics or medical needs whose place of birth is either our Labour ward or Alongside Midwifery lead Unit and resides within the significant deprived areas of the borough. There is also our specialist (Gateway team) who provides case loading care to our vulnerable women.
The successful postholder will need to:
- Be a Registered Midwife with a minimum of 1 year post registration experience
- Be educated to degree level or currently undertaking a degree programme
- Have undertaken the mentorship or equivalent Programme
- Have a passion for optimising women's opportunity for normal birth including promoting births out of the obstetric unit for low-risk women.
- Have sound clinical knowledge with the organisational and leadership skills necessary to manage change.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have the ability to communicate with women and their families in an empathetic manner regarding their care and birth choices.
