Job summary
We are looking for an EPOS Fellow in Paediatric Orthopaedics and Trauma (the first Fellowship globally to be endorsed by the European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society - EPOS) for January 2023-January 2024 (post 1) and January 2024-January 2025 (post 2). You will be based at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel. You will be joining a department with 22 consultant surgeons, of which 5 have a paediatric orthopaedic interest. Current elective and trauma facilities are centred at the Royal London in a brand new hospital, which opened in March 2012 with world-class facilities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work closely with the General Manager and the Lead Clinicians for Paediatric Orthopaedics and for Orthopaedics and Trauma in the management and administration of resources and to be active in promoting changes that improve the delivery of service to patients.
The Trust provides emergency and general hospital services for the local community (which has a wide ethnic mix, with pockets of marked socio-economic deprivation). It also serves as a tertiary referral centre for East London for most medical and surgical sub-specialties. There is a busy emergency and elective workload and the hospital is a major trauma centre taking cases from the whole area of Greater London, many of whom are brought in by the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS). The new world-class facilities at the 900-bedded Royal London Hospital comprises extensive emergency, HDU and ITU areas, including paediatric intensive care. The theatre suite at The Royal London comprises three floors of theatres (paediatric, adult and day care - ACAD).
Paediatric trauma and elective orthopaedic cases are admitted to the Children's Hospital in the new Royal London Hospital. MRI and CT scanners are on site. There are large physiotherapy and occupational therapy units on site, and there is a large modern hydrotherapy unit. The site is adjacent to the Queen Mary University London (QMUL) campus and the department has strong academic links with several departments with QMUL.
