Job summary
Surgery across the Royal London Hospital has been redesigned to ensure we provide excellent care for all our patients. Ward 3E has been instrumental in tackling the challenges ahead and reducing our waiting times for urgent surgical care. Ward 3E manages the following specialties.
Surgical Admission ward:The ward works closely with our emergency department. Our main aim is to create a smooth admission pathway from the front door to go through either our emergency surgical ambulatory care unit or onto our admissions ward.
Long Stay Cancer Care Unit:Dedicated beds for patients from across the North East Network requiring specialist hepatobiliary, upper GI and colorectal care.
Main duties of the job
Nurses working on these wards will develop expert knowledge in assessment, care of complex surgical cases, management of drains, stoma care and working with a variety of multidisciplinary team members.
We are looking for enthusiastic nurses with a variety of experience who will use their initiative to improve service delivery. Surgical department and wards have recently changed in terms of function and service delivery due to the pandemic and may continue to evolve over the coming months to accommodate the service needs. Wearelooking for nurses who are willing to adapt and work with the surgical team to ensure we embed these changes for the benefit of our patients.
As we develop our service we will look to start a rotation programme though our four wards including experience in theatres and critical care. We strive to ensure our nurses thrive in our service, we have an open door policy for anyone working in our division.
The Government has announced that the legal requirement for all NHS workers in England, to be double vaccinated, is currently under legislative review.
We do however encourage those in roles that have face to face contact with patients to be double vaccinated against COVID-19 (unless they are medically exempt), and are continuing to support the vaccination uptake for all staff as this remains the best line of defence.
