As the first Neurotrauma Fellowship to receive RCS accreditation for subspecialist training in the UK, this fellowship offers a unique opportunity to work and train in one of the busiest Major Trauma Centres in Europe. Our Neurosurgery department has been pioneering in the development of a dedicated Neurotrauma service which complements our trust's specialist Trauma Service, and provides highly specialised multidisciplinary care for approximately 250 complex head injuries every year.

Main duties of the job

The Neurotrauma Fellow is a key member of the Neurotrauma team and will be supported by four dedicated Consultant Neurosurgeons on a 1 in 4 weekly rota, two full time clinical nurse specialists (CNS) and a Physician Associate.

Excellent team working and leadership skills are required, and the Neurotrauma Fellow will work closely with the Neurotrauma consultants, the Neurotrauma CNS, Neurosurgery ward nurses, ACCU team, ED team, After Trauma Team, Neuroradiologists and Neuro-therapists. They will be expected to co-ordinate both the weekly Head Injury MDT meetings and the busy cranioplasty service, and contribute to the Neuro-rehabilitation MDTs. In addition to emergency surgery for traumatic brain injury, the Neurotrauma Fellow will be trained to perform elective cranioplasties, complex craniofacial reconstructions, open and endoscopic skull base repair. This will often involve collaboration between the Maxillofacial, ENT and Neurotrauma teams
