Band 6 Rotational Speech and Language Therapists - Whipps Cross and Newham University Hospital
Following some recent promotions, Barts Health NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for several band 6 Speech and Language Therapists to join our newly-extended rotation across Whipps Cross and Newham Hospitals.
The Adult SLT services at Barts Health NHS Trust consists of 5 hospital sites and 3 community services across culturally diverse and lively East London.
This band 6 rotation covers the following specialities:
Integrated Stroke pathway at Whipps Cross, covering inpatients stroke unit and supporting patients on discharge home into the community
Inpatient acute medical wards at Whipps Cross Hospital**NEW** Waltham Forest Community post supporting patients face to face and /or virtually with swallowing and communication impairment at home and/or in care home setting, based out of Whipps Cross Hospital.
Inpatient acute Stroke and Acute medical ward at Newham Hospital
In addition to the variety of clinical exposure, there will be opportunities to develop competencies in videofluoroscopy, tracheostomy, FEES and the leadership and management skills e.g supervising band 5 SLTs or SLT assistant.
Regular supervision will be provided including access to joint assessments, formal protected1:1 meetings and peer support sessions. There are also excellent CPD opportunities within the SLT service and as part of the wider multidisciplinary team within one of the UK's largest NHS Trusts.
Main duties of the job
This post is part of Barts Health SLT Service. The therapist will work as a band 6 SLT within a set cog rotation across the adult SLT Acute, Waltham Forest Community SLT team and Stroke teams (inpatient/ community) at Whipps Cross University Hospital and within inpatients Acute and Stroke services at Newham University Hospital.
The post holder will be part of a team providing specialist assessment and treatment to adults in the inpatient and community settings, with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties . The post holder will provide intervention both uni-disciplinary and as part of a multi-professional team.
The post holder will work as part of the wider therapy team and be involved with service developments along designated clinical pathways. The post holder may be required to supervise band 5 SLT's and band 3 staff if appropriate, and will be expected to support student speech and language therapists on their placements. The post holder will access support and supervision from a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and Clinical Lead SLT.
