This is an opportunity for an experienced senior therapist to lead our OT, Physio, SLT and Dietetic Inpatient Therapy Services, providing highly specialist assessment and treatment to support our patients across Specialist Medicine, Emergency Care & Trauma, Surgery, Peri Operative and Adult Critical Care pathways. We are looking for a experienced, highly enthusiastic, collaborative and innovative leader to provide operational and strategic management, professional and clinical leadership of the therapy services on the site.

Main duties of the job

The Royal London inpatient therapy services work within integrated multidisciplinary divisional teams to support the delivery of excellent and innovative patient care for our local population of Tower Hamlets, alongside leading and delivering within tertiary specialist services. You will be joining a dedicated and supportive team of therapists with significant expertise and innovation within supporting acute patient care and those with highly complex needs.

You will provide direct clinical supervision and operational line management across the clinical leads and be responsible for inpatient therapists and support staff alongside supporting professional leadership and networks. You will work closely with the Head of Therapies RLHMEH and Clinical Leads to create our future vision and priorities for therapy services to deliver compassionate patient care and excellent staff experience.

You will also be supported and work collaboratively with the Head of Therapies RLHMEH, other Heads of Therapies and the Group Director of AHPs to develop and implement a wider therapies strategy realising inpatient therapies opportunities for workforce development, clinical effectiveness, research and innovation.

Job responsibilities

The aim of the role is to lead the provision of therapy service for adult inpatients based on one Hospital site, as part of the overall therapy provision for the Trust. The post holder is responsible for the day to day managerial, clinical and professional delivery of the OT, PT, SLT and dietetics services on the base site.

Key result areas

  • Strong operational and strategic management, professional and clinical leadership of the therapy service on the site.
  • Ensure the effective professional leadership for therapy services at RLH
  • Robust management of the allocated site therapy and any other allocated budgets.
  • Ensure all direct reports are briefed and appraised of service, RLH, Core Support Services and Trust issues
  • Maintain an integrated governance structure (clinical, operational and financial) for therapy service on the allocated site.
  • Ensure high quality, safe, cohesive, efficient, cost effective evidence based practice within RLH site therapies service
  • Lead the clinical quality programme for inpatient therapy services, ensuring that Trust, Site and Divisional directives are interpreted and followed and that quality standards are met.
  • Lead therapies safe staffing reviews, workforce development and planning for inpatient therapy services.
  • Deputise for the Head of Therapy RLHMEH when required.
  • To build and maintain key relationships with Divisional Triumvirates, senior managers and clinicians throughout the Trust and with other appropriate external organisations including NEL Integrated Care System, Community Service providers, Social Services and Voluntary Care partners.
  • To hold a designated portfolio for therapies in the one of the following areas quality and safety, patient/staff engagement, research and education lead and quality improvement.

Essential

  • Degree level professional qualification in OT, Physio, SaLT or Dietetics (Degree, Msc)
  • HCPC registered
  • Educated to Masters level in a related subject or for equivalent post graduate experience

Desirable

  • Coaching skills for Managers
  • Management qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Operational management including budget management experience in therapies.
  • Clinical or Professional Lead experience within therapies
