Job summary
This NHS Locum position is to join the current nine substantive consultants; Drs Neil Fisher, Sauid Ishaq, Sharan Shetty, Shanika de Silva, Rizwan Mahmood, Deepa Rattehalli, John Frost, Dr Matthew Harborne and Dr Dominic King. The clinical team also includes 4 nurse endoscopists, 3 IBD specialist nurses (2.03 WTE), 3 nutrition nurses (1.2WTE), 2 hepatology nurses (1.8 WTE) and several training grade doctors. The new alcohol care team was launched in May 2022 with 2 ACT nurses and an ACT coordinator.
There is a 36- bedded gastroenterology ward (C7). There is a modern endoscopy unit with 4 endoscopy rooms. A 5th endoscopy room is due to open later this year with further estates expansion in progress. There is a dedicated room in radiology for ERCP/ fluoroscopy.
Main duties of the job
This post will help address the Trust's diagnostic and treatment targets in out-patient, in-patient and endoscopy services, and help enhance our capacity for the anticipated expansion in colonoscopy over the next few years. If appropriate the job plan of the post-holder may be configured to accommodate any other subspecialist expertise.
Full accreditation in gastroenterology and general (internal) medicine will be required, and the post-holder will be expected to contribute towards the general gastroenterological workload including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, in addition to a small caseload of the general medicine. A research interest with evidence of publications is desirable as is a post graduate degree.
