Locum Consultant Upper GI General Surgeon

Job summary

An opportunity for a locum consultant general and surgeon has arisen due to a vacancy. The post holder will be joining the existing general surgical team and is expected to excel in general, and emergency surgery. In collaboration with RCS England, we have a Chole-QuIC 3 pathway and expected to participate in emergency cholecystectomy rota. The post holder will need to be flexible and undertake some of the elective general surgical workload when the service needs require.

The Department of Surgery is supported by a strong Medical Gastroenterology unit that is JAG accredited and carries out NHS bowel cancer screening colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy. The team provide flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, gastroscopy, advanced polypectomies and an ERCP service. An emergency endoscopy service including colonic stenting is also available. Capsule endoscopy is also available onsite.

Main duties of the job

• To conduct outpatient and elective day-case and inpatient activity.
• Working collaboratively with clinical and managerial colleagues to further develop and improve the service.
• Participation in clinical audit and CME/CPD appropriate to experience at consultant level, together with contribution to education and training of medical students and junior staff
• To provide supervision and support to medical students and contribute to departmental teaching programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Administrative duties as required within the Directorate

• The post holder will be required to participate in the on-call rota. It is anticipated that this post will work to a 1 in 12 rota and is paid at category A level and attracts a supplement of 3%.
