Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within our Emergency Department, for the appointment of Deputy Matrons to support our Nursing Teams to become effective communicators, to mentor new staff, to support Matron in the maintenance of professional standards, creating a safe and improved patient, relative and staff experience whilst supporting the interface between the multidisciplinary teams. This will ensure we have senior leadership over a 7-day period in the department.

Are you a well-motivated individual with experience of working in a senior role with a high level of clinical skills and an ability and proven track record of supporting staff to meet their full potential and be the best practitioner they can be? If you can initiate, facilitate, and sustain change then this is the role for you.

As a role model you will be spending at least 80% of your time supporting the staff by the bedside caring for patients, on a shift pattern, delivering basic but essential nursing care, administering medications, ensuring effective management plans are followed and aiming to be part of a wider project to develop a secure robust nurse leadership team supported by Matron and the divisional team who not only are accountable for the raising of professional standards and improved quality metrics, but work with our nursing teams to maintain high quality care supported by strong governance.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with the Matron, to be responsible for leading the Nursing workforce within the Emergency Department ensuring the delivery of patient focussed high quality nursing care. To work across organisational boundaries to ensure services are patient responsive, ensuring the delivery of national and local strategic and operational service objectives.

To take appropriate and effective action where any principles of care or professionalism fall below agreed, acceptable standards.

To be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective day-to-day running of the Emergency Department, the management of designated staff and the delivery of key quality, and service improvements.

To lead an identified programme of work, identified by the Nursing Director as part of the annual Performance Review process, ensuring that the planning, implementation and monitoring of the project reflect agreed objectives.
