Job summary
This post is for three Physician Associates (PAs) to join a large team of existing PAs on a one-year fixed term Internship Programme. It is an exciting opportunity to work in Acute Medicine. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, alongside other PAs and junior doctors Monday-Friday, typically between 8am-5pm depending on the department. The role will include (but is not limited to) participating in ward rounds, clerking and diagnosing patients, arranging investigations, performing procedural skills, making appropriate referrals, initiating and completing management plans and communicating with patients and their carers/ families. You will receive close supervision, teaching, training, and mentorship enabling you to embed core skills, knowledge and competencies. You will need to have excellent communication and team working skills, be enthusiastic and have a strong drive to develop your clinical skills and academic knowledge. You will be expected to participate in all aspects of the team's activities as appropriate and work across all units of a department as required. You will be accountable for ensuring that patient care is always of high standard and that you practice according to the Trust's core values. You will be supervised by a Consultant Physician as well as the Trust's Lead Physician Associate.
Main duties of the job
- To perform the initial assessment and examination of the patient, initiate diagnostic process and interpret investigations and recommend initial treatment.
- To exercise a high degree of personal autonomy when assessing and planning care, for a caseload of patients with a range of presenting complaints across the two specialities.
- To develop core knowledge and experience in the two specialities, acting as a resource to the clinical team and allied health professionals.
- To contribute to achieving and maintaining any targets mandated by the departments.
- To support work related to national audits
- To take medical histories, undertake physical examinations, diagnose and explain conditions during consultations.
