Job Summary
The post holder will be expected to assist the Department to provide the service necessary to achieve contracted activity and to meet the needs of trainee doctors. In so doing, an acceptance of flexibility in working arrangements will be necessary.
Day to day supervision will be through all the Consultant Obstetricians and Gynaecologists jointly. Supervision will, therefore, depend on which clinic or duties the post holder is pursuing. Responsibility will be to the Clinical Director, Women and Children's Services.
The post holder will work a weekly programme with nights and weekends on resident on call commitments. The resident on call will be shared with other SHO colleagues with appropriate time off during the week. This is a full time post.
Main duties of the job
- Responsibility for the care and day to day management of the patients of the Consultant with whom the post holder is working at the time, and the assistance with the care of others as and when necessary.
- The timetable consists of theatre sessions, outpatient clinics, ward work and specialist services such as Colposcopy clinic, Post Menopausal Bleeding (Rapid Access) clinic and Early Pregnancy assessment. The sessions are rostered flexibly to cover the needs of the department, but include fixed elements to provide for a continuity of service.
- Attendance at out-patient clinics, labour ward and theatre sessions as required.
- Assisting fully in the timely preparation of discharge summaries and clinical letters.

- To take part fully in any advances and /or changes in practice agreed by the Directorate.
- The successful candidate will be expected, from time to time, to participate in the regular teaching programme of tutorials organized by the Directorate and take an active part in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programme.
Oncall Requirements
The post holder will be required to participate in an on-call rota. Currently this rota is on a 1 in 10 basis.
