Job summary

The Rheumatology Department is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and driven Physician Associate (PA) to join their multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be joining one of the largest and busiest rheumatology teams in the West Midlands, offering adolescent and adult rheumatology services with a wide spectrum of specialist and inter-disciplinary clinics (for early RA, seronegative arthropathy, connective tissue disease, vasculitis, musculoskeletal ultrasound, osteoporosis, scleroderma, renal, respiratory and orthopaedics). The department is staffed by a full multi-disciplinary team of specialist rheumatology nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and a health psychologist. This is the first PA post within the department; it includes both outpatient clinics and joint injection clinics as well as telephone advice line and blood monitoring programmed activities. This is an exciting opportunity with significant scope for progression and the team are looking for an individual who is committed to progressing in this speciality with an aim of developing specialist skills.

Main duties of the job

  1. Demonstrate interest in the care of patients and the specialty, within the multidisciplinary team set up and an agreed job plan.
  2. Respect the opinion of all the multidisciplinary team.
  3. Perform their clinical duties with interest and respect to the patients and to permanent staff; take a history paying attention to the "special" requirements of the specialty, examine patients fully and help with their management on a day to day basis by liaising with other staff, updating patients' notes and actively tracking and acting on investigation results.
  4. To support patients along a greed evidence-based care pathways
  5. To develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues from other teams within the Dudley Clinical Hub.
  6. Be involved in departmental administration.

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Physician Associate Studies, from one of the UK Physician Associate Programmes.
  • FPA National Examination (pass)
  • To be on the PA Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR). Member of Faculty of Physician Associates (RCP)

Desirable

  • Post Graduate MSc in Physician Associate Studies, from one of the UK Physician Associate Programmes.

Knowledge and Training

Essential

  • Demonstrate competency in history taking
  • Demonstrate competency in performing physical examinations
  • Ability to order and interpret clinical investigation
  • Venepuncture and cannulation skills

Desirable

  • Training in immediate life support
