Job summary

Are you ready for the next leadership step? You will be joining a Trust that is investing in strong clinical leadership with this newly established post and will be at the forefront of driving the antimicrobial resistance policy at DGFT. This new role will provide strong clinical leadership to ensure AMR patterns and health inequalities are addressed locally and across the ICS. The post will influence data driven antibiotic consumption improvements, facilitate quality improvement, audit and research across care interfaces. These opportunities will be delivered through new and existing ICS antimicrobial network with links into Infection Prevention, regional and national groups. As a consultant pharmacist the post holder will provide a dynamic link between clinical practice and service development by creating new models for delivering patient care ensuring the best experience and health outcomes for patients from their medicines regardless of setting of care. You will be supported by local and system Senior Pharmacy Leadership Teams, the Director of Infection Prevention & Control, Consultant Microbiologists, Research & Development, Higher Education Institutes and Black Country ICS partners. Post accreditation with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society is expected shortly and we will consider candidates who are yet to meet all the essential criteria as a progression against agreed milestones for consultant pharmacist credentialing.

Main duties of the job

The key responsibilities of the post holder will be to strategically lead, manage and co-ordinate antimicrobial medicines optimisation, in accordance with national strategies, policy, standards and system priorities. The postholder will o Work with the stakeholders to develop and implement our vision for the optimal use of antimicrobial agents by recognising and promoting best practice. o Ensure that the clinical governance agenda, including risk management issues, is delivered in relation to antimicrobial drug use. o Motivate and inspire other healthcare professionals to adopt ownership of, and responsibility for, prudent use of antimicrobials. o Develop and implement a strategy to effectively influence antimicrobial prescribing in line with local and national objectives.

o Locally lead on the UK Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Delivery plan, delivering on National indicators for antimicrobial stewardship in Black country ICS. The postholder will recognised as an expert in antimicrobial stewardship, representing and acting as a role model for the pharmacy profession lead and actively encourage research, service evaluation projects and audits to improve antimicrobial prescribing and infection prevention and control.

  • Professional Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) - Registered Pharmacist
