We have a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and experienced pharmacy leader to join the senior pharmacy management team as Deputy Chief Pharmacist Medicines Optimisation. This is a pivotal position in the Pharmacy Department and the post holder will support the Chief Pharmacist through strategic planning and delivery of 3 key portfolios: Clinical Pharmacy service, Medicines Optimisation & Commissioning and Education and Training. As a registered pharmacist you will lead on the service transformations outlined in the DGFT Pharmacy Strategy. As a member of the senior Pharmacy Management Team, you will have a strong team to influence data driven quality improvements, facilitate audit and research across care interfaces. These opportunities will be delivered through new and existing networks with links into ICS, regional and national groups. Possession of excellent leadership & interpersonal skills will be essential to enable the post holder to develop positive working relationships with all groups of staff and key stakeholders across the Trust and Black Country ICS. This role will provide maternity leave cover for 12 months and will commence August 2023 with handover from the current post holder

Main duties of the job

The key responsibilities of the post holder will be to strategically lead, manage and co-ordinate three key portfolios: Clinical Pharmacy Service Medicines Optimisation & Commissioning Education and Training Collaborate closely with the Chief Pharmacist to deliver high quality medicines optimisation services aligned to the Pharmacy Strategic plan, business planning, ICS and national agenda Deputises for the Chief Pharmacist, fulfilling leadership role and provides suitable handover and communications during these periods. Ensures systems are in place to control the operation portfolio services safely, effectively, efficiently and in compliance with all

relevant legislation, the Trust Medicines Management Policy and Trust standards of governance. Ensures professional leadership, strategy and operation of the Pharmacy Service provision is progressive, responsive to internal and external demand, patient focused, and safe, efficient and effective. Leads, develops, and evaluates pharmacy profession education and training in line with the various education reforms and has oversight of the medicines management education delivery of the wider multidisciplinary members within the Trust.

Essential

  • MPharm or equivalent academic qualification
  • Professional Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) - Registered Pharmacist
  • Postgraduate Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience/qualification
  • Masters in pharmacy practice or portfolio that demonstrates the acquisition and use of a higher level of specialist knowledge

Desirable

  • Recognised training in education or professional tutoring
  • Formal leadership/management qualification relevant to the NHS

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience post registration in a senior pharmacy role either in a hospital or a primary care environment
  • Recent experience in a leadership role within Pharmacy Clinical or Operational Services
  • Experience of working with senior healthcare professionals within and external to Pharmacy to deliver a service and achieve service improvements

Planning & Organisation Skills

  • Evidence of planning, implementing and monitoring outcomes in research, quality improvement or audit
