Job summary
We will have vacancies for two consultants, however with the development of a business case there is potential for further consultant posts. Applicants with a sub-speciality interest in TB, pulmonary infections, interstitial lung disease, TB and Severe Airway disease (Asthma and COPD) would be particularly welcome. There is also a need for an interested individual to drive forward the TB and Pulmonary infections service, saying that all sub-speciality interests would be considered and welcomed.
They will take part in a one in seven point five Respiratory on call rota. On call respiratory Consultants provide support for the Respiratory Assessment Service. The post is on call for Respiratory Medicine alone rather than Respiratory and General Internal Medicines. The Respiratory rota usually consists of one weekend, Friday to Sunday and then one week after the finish of that on call period for a four-day period between Monday and Thursday. Though with the development of the business case it is expected that the on-call arrangement will change and likely be less frequent with the additional consultants however cover 7 days in a row.
Main duties of the job
Provision of a general medical service to the population of Dudley and the surrounding districts including acute medical admissions to Russell Hall Hospital, Respiratory medicine outpatient clinics at Russell Hall Hospital and at the other chest clinics.
Provision of a Respiratory service via the outpatients and acceptance of Consultant referrals.
Administrative duties to ensure proper function of the department.
Provision of cover for colleagues' periods of leave.
Participation in medical audit and to continuing medical education together with contribution to the education and training of Junior Staff.
