Job summary

At the inception of the biggest pharmacy education reforms we have ever seen, we have a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable pharmacist to become the Principal Pharmacist for Professional Development and Education.

This post is responsible for all aspects of pre and post registration training for pharmacy staff; from undergraduate activities linked to Universities, trainee pharmacists and technicians, delivering the "Step-up" programme for junior pharmacists, developing clinical technician roles, developing staff along the advanced pharmacist curricula, supporting the pharmacist prescriber strategy and make consultant pharmacist roles a reality!

We are looking for a pharmacist with extensive post-graduate clinical experience, with the skills and passion for workforce development, education and teaching.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is the Pharmacy lead for education, training and development of pharmacy staff across the directorate, and responsible for the planning and delivery of prescribing and medicines education and training for medical graduates in collaboration with the postgraduate education team.

The post holder has overall leadership responsibility for pre and post registration training for Pharmacy staff, ensuring the standards set down by Health Education england (HEE), GPhC, Trust and Pharmacy directorate are met. This includes:

  • Postgraduate pharmacists' education and development at foundation, advanced practice and consultant levels. Trainee pharmacist training in line with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Framework, including acting as the Educational Programme Director.
  • Undergraduates pharmacy students undertaking formal university placement programmes and summer placements
  • Registered technician training and development including accredited enhanced roles.
  • Pre-registration pharmacy technician training (NVQ level 3 + BTEC level 4).
  • NVQ level 2 pharmacy assistant training, apprentices and other staff involved in the ordering, supply and storage of medicines.

The post holder plans, organises and delivers training and education for Undergraduate Health Professionals and Post-Graduate Pharmacists, Nurses, postgraduate Doctors and Technicians.
