Job summary
The post holder has key responsibility for leading the clinical and technical provision to clinical Oncology and Pharmacy Preparative Services. They will lead, provide and develop the clinical pharmacy service for patients requiring systemic anticancer therapies within the Haematology and Oncology Division.The post holder will provide senior preparative services support to the aseptic unit, will be an Authorised Pharmacist when supervising the day-to-day preparation of products and release for use in accordance with national and local standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). The post holder will deputise for the Principal Pharmacists for Cancer & Preparative Services and participate in the provision of a comprehensive pharmaceutical service to The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust and to those organisations with whom the Trust has a contract for supply of pharmaceutical services.
Main duties of the job
Clinical:
- To provide specialist expertise and leadership on the prescribing, preparation and administration of parenteral and oral systemic anticancer therapy, adult/neonatal total parenteral nutrition & other aseptically prepared products.
- To work as a non-medical prescriber within cancer services and prescribe medication for patients as required within the designated scope of practice
- To lead in the development of systemic anticancer treatment policies, procedures and guidelines aimed at improving the effectiveness, safety & efficiency of clinical cancer services
- Preparative Services:
- To assist the Principal Pharmacist and Principal Technician Preparative Services to improve productivity, standards and quality in the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit.
Provision of preparative services including the implementation and monitoring of standard operating procedures for the provision of services and performance monitoring of service levels for Trust wards.

- MPharm or equivalent academic qualification
- Current membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Postgraduate clinical specialist knowledge acquired through diploma level training i.e. Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy
Desirable
- Advanced training in preparative services including work in an aseptic unit, use of isolators and quality assurance.
- Pharmacist Independent Non-medical prescriber (or willing to work towards completion).
